College essay guidance that keeps your voice

Your application should sound like you: thoughtful, specific, and honest.

I’m Andrew Snyder, Ed.D. I help students develop personal statements and supplemental essays that communicate who they are and what matters to them. My role is to ask useful questions, offer clear feedback, and make the writing process manageable. The ideas and writing remain the student’s own.

Essay guidance is available through my comprehensive college counseling service. I also offer a focused final review for students with completed drafts.

From an idea to a clearer story

A starting point does not have to be a dramatic event or a list of accomplishments. We explore experiences, interests, responsibilities, and moments that reveal how you think. The aim is to find a topic you can discuss with detail and reflection.

Once there is a direction, we work on structure, clarity, and the connection between the story and what you want a reader to understand. I offer feedback through revisions while protecting the language and perspective that make the essay yours.

Personal statements and supplemental essays

Different prompts ask different things of a student. I help students distinguish the purpose of the main personal statement from school-specific supplements, including “Why us?” responses and essays for honors or specialized programs.

  • Explore topics grounded in your actual experiences.

  • Identify details that show your interests, choices, and growth.

  • Build a structure that is clear and easy to follow.

  • Check that each response answers the prompt.

  • Revise for clarity and impact without replacing your voice.

A focused final essay review

If you have already written your essays, the final review package covers a completed primary college essay (personal statement) and up to three supplemental essays. The package is $2,900 for 2–3 hours. This service is already included in the all-inclusive counseling package.

Questions about essay support

Will you write the essay for me?

No. I provide guidance and feedback; the work remains yours. The purpose is to help you express your experiences more clearly, in a voice you recognize as your own.

What if I struggle to get started?

We can begin with conversation and brainstorming, then break the writing into smaller steps. Essay support within comprehensive counseling includes developing ideas and working through drafts. The focused final review package is for completed essays.

Can we work together remotely?

Yes. I work with families in Greater Boston and offer virtual college counseling nationwide.
